Eastern Prickly Pear is the only cactus widely found in the East.
It has flat, round, succulent green "pads," which store water, covered with bristles that can be irritating to the touch. Its stunning, 3-inch blooms attract beetles, bees and butterflies. After flowering, the cactus produces attractive, edible fruits.
