Calico Aster features whitish, purplish rays with centers that mature from yellowish to reddish.  Sometimes the different-colored centers appear on the same plant.

Flowers are small, about 1/3 inch, but plentiful on horizontal branches.

Calico Aster easily grows in average, well-drained soils and prefers sun and partial shade.  It is clump forming and needs a little room to spread, but otherwise it makes a great garden plant.

Note: Cutting the top few inches in spring will encourage a denser look with more flowers.
