New England Aster is among the showiest and most beautiful of all the asters.
Just as summer is winding down, New England Aster bursts forth with large, medium- to dark-purple petals surrounding a sunny, yellow center disc.
New England Aster loves full sun and is adaptable to moist soils. It is a tall plant and provides excellent vertical appeal.
A pollinator favorite, it provides special value to native bees and late-season nectar for Monarchs and other butterflies. It is a larval host to the Checkerspot and Pearl Crescent butterflies.
Note: When in bloom, the leaves tend to dry up, which is normal.
To encourage bushier growth, and reduce any need for staking, cut back the main stem in midsummer.
