No wonder sunflowers are symbols of happiness and optimism with their cheery, yellow blooms.

Pollinators love them, too. The Thin-leaved Sunflower, and others in the genus, are larval hosts to the Silvery Checkerspot and Painted Lady butterflies.

The leaves on Thin-leaved Sunflower are exceptionally long and slender.  Pruning in spring encourages stronger stems and denser growth.
