Partridgeberry is about as low-growing as you can get.  A trailing vine, it grows no taller than 2 to 3 inches.  Its evergreen foliage is a bright green with whitish accents, and its flowers, whitish with a flush of pink, are lightly scented.  The berries, bright red and edible, often persist through winter.

Partridgeberry makes a perfect groundcover for shady areas as its stem runs along the ground, creating a carpet of green.  This plant is not aggressive, making it ideal for smaller spaces or shady gardens.

Partridgeberry tolerates heavy shade, morning sun and dappled sunlight.
