Native blackberries, sweet when ripe and good off the vine and in jams, smoothies and frozen.
 
Allegheny Blackberry (Rubus allegheniensis) likes full sun and grows naturally in woodlands and open areas. 
 
Allegheny Blackberry features white spring blooms--favored by bees and other pollinators--followed by summer fruits that are black when fully ripened.
 
It's stems are thorny and grow straight, eventually bending to root into the ground.  Fall color is in oranges, reds, burgundies.
 
Try Blackberry along a stone wall, as a hedge and in a native or pollinator garden.  Happy snacking!
