Path Rush generally is shorter than its more common cousin, Juncus effusus, and while Common Rush forms larger, speading clumps, Path Rush forms smaller, denser clumps.

Both are excellent plants for sunny, wet spots; Path Rush has the added advantage of thriving in driers areas as well, including sandy areas.

Path Rush tolerates foot traffic and makes a great walkable ground cover,  and it provides nesting and habitat for birds and other wildlife.

Path Rush grows naturally in open woodlands, swamps and meadows.
