Rhodora maybe be one of the smallest of the azaleas, but its full-on blooms would suggest otherwise.

This beautiful shrub, growing usually no taller than 3 feet, erupts in pink beginning in mid- to late-May.  The abundance of blooms appear either before or just as the leaves are emerging.

The flowers have 5 petals and, unlike other Rhododendron, the petals remain separate with three above and two below.  The fruit is a capsule that disperses is the fall.

Try Rhodora as a specimen, in a garden, in a moist area or along a pond or stream bank -- anywhere it can show off its beautiful flowers.
