With its tiny, white, fragrant flowers and arching branches, Virginia Sweetspire makes for a beautiful shrub in just about any garden setting.

Also great for a fall show, Virginia Sweetspire's dark green leaves turn brilliant shades of red and orange, often hanging on until after the first frost.

Generally it is found growing in moist woods and meadows, in swampy areas and along stream banks, but it does adapt well to medium soils and shade.

Virginia Sweetspire attracts butterflies, and songbirds eat the seeds that emerge after the flowers fade.

This shrub likes to sucker and form colonies, and it may be a bit leggy in full shade.
