The bright red stems of Red Twig Dogwood look dashing against the white snow.

This is one of our go-to shrubs for winter interest.  Even in winters with no snow, the red stands out against evergreen trees and shrubs and can be a bright spot among the otherwise gray landscape.

Also a great shrub for wildlife, Red Osier is a larval host for the lovely Spring Azure, and it attracts waterfowl, marshbirds and shorebirds, mammals, birds and butterflies.

Clusters of creamy-white blossoms are followed by pea-sized white berries that last into fall.

Prune out old canes periodically and to nearly the ground in spring to encourage vigorous new red twigs.
